Yesterday was the second Sunday of the 2010 Toronto GAA season and it was just as good as the first. While the weather was a bit cooler, the games were just as good, if not better, with loads of competitive football from the youths, the men and the ladies. Here are your results for the week!
On Wednesday night, Michael Cusacks beat Durham 2-11 to 1-11. Wednesday night games will be a regular occurrence this season with Durham playing in each one. These games do count as regular season games and so it's important that the ladies all field teams if they are scheduled to play on a Wednesday! In the only Sunday ladies game, St. Mikes beat Brampton 3-10 to 1-03. Michael Cusacks were scheduled to travel to Ottawa on Saturday, but failed to do so and therefore the points were awarded to Ottawa. St. Vincents, however, did make the trip up to Ottawa this weekend and chalked up their second win in as many games, beating Ottawa 4-13 to 1-2. In mens' Centennial Park action, St. Mikes also won their second game of the season, beating Durham 1-15 to 0-08, while Brampton beat St. Pats in a game that came down to the wire, 1-10 to 0-07. Finally, the St. Mikes B team beat the Toronto Gaels 3-08 to 1-06, collecting their first win of the year. There were also a number of youth games involving the Toronto Chieftans and Brampton Rebels, showcasing the talent of the young boys and girls in the GAA community. There was some great football on display and it's clear that the development programs are working and flourishing around the GTA. Once again, it was a very successful week for the Toronto GAA and thanks goes out to all those who refereed, played, or just came out and supported the teams. We hope to see you all back out next week as we continue to build on a promising start to the 2010 season. |

This past weekend saw the 2010 Toronto GAA season kicked off with all but two teams in action. With an assortment of bouncy castles and a big barbeque, it was truly a family day at Centennial. However, although Sunday was the official Opening Day, the St. Mikes and Ottawa Gaels ladies faced off on Saturday in the first game of the season.
In that game, Ottawa triumphed over the defending champs, St. Mikes, 4-13 to 0-10. In other ladies action, Ottawa won their second game in two days over Brampton, 3-6 to 0-3. St. Mikes regrouped after their opening loss to beat Michael Cusacks 1-10 to 1-05. On the mens side, St. Vincents looked to start defending their championship with a win over Durham in their opening game. They did just that, scoring 0-12 to Durham's 2-4. In the game of out-of-town teams, Ottawa beat Buffalo 3-15 to 0-3. St. Mikes beat the Toronto Gaels 2-12 to 0-4. Finally, a strong, young Brampton squad took on the St. Mikes B team, winning 1-10 to 0-05. A big thank you to all those volunteers who made this weekend possible. Also, a big thank you to those supporters who came out to take in the games. It was a great way to start the 2010 season and we hope to see all those people back out every weekend. Photos and an updated table to follow. |
